The College organised a vibrant celebration of Pongal 2025 on 11 January 2025 within the college premises to commemorate the traditional harvest festival of Tamil Nadu. The event sought to cultivate cultural awareness, gratitude towards nature, and appreciation of Tamil heritage among students.
As part of this cultural festival, conducted through the methodology of cultural display, twenty students from III B.A. English participated enthusiastically in the celebration. The students prepared traditional sweet Pongal in an earthen pot using firewood, thereby preserving and demonstrating age-old customs associated with the festival. The ritual was performed outdoors as a mark of reverence to the Sun God, symbolising the spirit of thanksgiving and prosperity that lies at the heart of the celebration.
The participants, attired in elegant green and reddish-pink sarees, contributed to the festive ambience with their traditional attire. They also created a beautiful and colourful kolam (rangoli), the intricate patterns of which added aesthetic charm and enhanced the cultural atmosphere of the occasion. The celebration thus reflected the essence of Tamil identity through visual and ritual expression.
Beyond the ceremonial aspects, the event fostered a sense of unity, cooperation, and collective joy among the students. It provided an experiential understanding of Tamil Nadu’s agrarian traditions and the values of gratitude and harmony with nature. The celebration served as a meaningful reminder of the state’s enduring cultural heritage and the importance of sustaining such practices within academic spaces.
