Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women was established in the year 1985 under the T. Thomas Educational Trust. The Founder Dr. Elizabeth Thomas was the wife of Mr. T. Thomas, the founder of the CTTE Trust and the St. Mary’s Group of Schools. When the College was first established, there were no women’s colleges in the locality & the objective of the institution was to offer affordable higher education & empowerment to women, specially first generation learners who found it difficult to travel to Central & South Chennai.

DEPLOYMENT

Keeping in mind the vision of the founders of this institution, the Management which comprises of the Board of Trustees of Chevalier T. Thomas Educational Trust has decided to set aside funds for the following:

Infrastructure of International Standards

  • Provide spacious, well-ventilated classrooms, Seminar halls, auditoriums, state-of-the-art laboratories & library.
  • Provide sufficient computers with internet and wifi connectivity in labs, library and departments.
  • Upgrade ICT facilities on a regular basis.
  • Provide facilities for Sports by constructing an indoor stadium, leveling and maintaining the outdoor sports ground for different athletic events & games.
  • Purchase books for the library on a regular basis.
  • Make the institution more inclusive by improving facilities for the differently abled.
  • Provide sustainable renewable energy like solar energy as a part of green initiative to make the campus a green campus

Excellence in the "teaching-learning" & research experience

  • Provide excellent ICT infrastructure through installation of LCD projectors, High speed WiFi connectivity, e-browsing facilities, opportunities for online courses and State-of-the-art computer & language labs.
  • Attract well-qualified and talented faculty by providing several welfare measures besides UGC scales of pay to regularized teachers.
  • Encourage faculty to do research and to take part in conferences, workshops and seminars & publish research papers in standard journals.
  • Permit faculty to take part in refresher courses as well as FDPs and long and short term certificate courses (offline & online) to stay abreast of knowledge in their field.
  • Invite the best minds as resource persons to address our students.
  • Provide opportunities for advanced learners and support for slow learners through different programs.
  • Encourage academic excellence by giving proficiency prizes & awards.
  • Provide more scholarships to help the deserving & needy students.

Inculcation of values, imparting of skills & development of talents

  • Provide global competencies through international certification in the latest computer languages, foreign languages like French, German & Spoken English.
  • Provide greater opportunities for students by increasing the number of programs offered by this institution.
  • Help students tap their potentials and talents and also create awareness and exposure by setting aside sufficient funds to conduct Club, Cultural, Sports and co-curricular activities, thus building up human capital.
  • Set aside funds to celebrate events of national importance like Republic Day, Independence Day and the Birth & Death Anniversaries of great Indian leaders.
  • Also set aside funds to celebrate different religious festivals so as to create unity and understanding amidst students from different religious and linguistic backgrounds & thus promote the spirit of secularism and also understanding of our culture, ethos & values.
  • Provide free training in Yoga, BharataNatyam and Veena to help Students stay connected to this cultural heritage.
  • Provide counseling & mentoring for students to overcome academic & personal problems.

Training on employability skills & placement

  • Enhance the employability skills of students through appropriate training by the Placement Cell and in collaboration with the different departments of the college as well as the industry so as to provide hundred percent placement.
  • Help students succeed in competitive exams by providing free training in competitive exams.

ED Cell and its functioning

  • Enhance self- employability by developing the E.D Cell of the college and by offering certificate courses in different Entrepreneurial skills like baking, tailoring, jute product making etc. through MoUs with recognized institutions and industry.

Empowering women

  • Create a Women’s Cell to address the grievances of women & also impart guidance on self protection, both legal & otherwise.
  • Sensitize women students to other genders.
  • Provide higher education opportunity to employed women by bringing in Shift II.
