The International Conference on “The Origin and Progress of Psychology – Laying the Foundation for Students’ Future”, organized by the Department of Psychology, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women in association with CSIR – Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology, Bhubaneswar, brought together eminent scholars, practitioners, and students to explore the rich historical journey of psychology. Over two days, the event featured eight technical sessions led by distinguished experts who traced the discipline’s evolution from ancient philosophical roots to contemporary scientific advancements.

Dr. M. Malaiappan, Psychiatrist and Director of the Institute of Mental Health, Tamil Nadu, clarified misconceptions around mental health, distinguishing between normal and abnormal behavior, and highlighting the biological, psychological, and social dimensions influencing well-being.
Dr. V. Suresh, Former Professor and Head of the Department of Psychology, Annamalai University, provided an overview of the major schools of psychology and underscored their relevance in everyday life beyond academic study.
Dr. V.D. Swaminathan, Retired Professor, University of Madras, and Chief Mentor, Thunai, reflected on psychology as both an art and a science, charting its journey from early experimental labs to modern intersections with artificial intelligence, data science, and machine learning.

Day two opened with Dr. Razeena Padman, Retired Professor and Director of the School of Behavioral Sciences, MG University, Kerala, offering a detailed exploration of Sigmund Freud’s life, theories, and psychoanalytic stages of development.
Dr. Keerthi Pai, Founder and Vice President of the Clinical Psychology Society of India, elaborated on the various specializations within clinical psychology while emphasizing ethical practice and professional responsibility.
SI Elantamil Komahan, Commander, Indian Navy, presented the applications of psychology in defense and military operations, outlining the examinations and competencies required for entry and progression in the sector.
The day concluded with a recorded address by Ms. Sabhyata Verma, from the Ministry of Social Service, Government of Saskatchewan, Canada, who shared international perspectives on psychology and reflected on the conference’s overarching themes, reinforcing the global relevance of psychological principles.

The CTTE Research Cell and IQAC, in collaboration with St. Joseph College of Arts and Science for Women, Salem, the Indian Community Welfare Organisation (ICWO), NAANDI Foundation, and the CTTE Anti-Human Trafficking Club, organised a National Conference on “Female-Directed Aggression and Strategic Responses” on 13th August 2024 in online mode.
The conference aimed to address the pressing issues of violence and harassment faced by women worldwide through scholarly discussion and strategic solutions. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. V. Bharathi Harishankar, Vice Chancellor, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore, who highlighted the multifactorial causes of female-directed aggression and stressed the importance of proactive, equitable approaches.

Invited talks were delivered by Ms. Nistha Dubey, Mrs. M. Rajakumari, and Mr. G. B. N. Rohit, who spoke on trafficking challenges, women’s legal rights, and empowerment through education and economic development, respectively. The event saw active participation from over 100 delegates representing various institutions, with 47 research papers presented on topics including gender-based violence in marginalised communities, teen dating violence, and the media’s role in women’s empowerment.
The conference served as a significant platform for knowledge exchange, reinforcing CTTE College’s commitment to research-driven advocacy and its dedication to addressing gender-based challenges through academic and community collaboration.

The conference facilitated in-depth discussions on gender-based violence, teen dating violence, and the role of media in empowering women. A total of 47 research papers were presented, contributing significant scholarly insights, and fostering collaborative strategies to combat female-directed aggression.
The Department of Tamil of Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women, in association with Uyirmai Publications and Pasumaikudi (USA), hosted an International Conference on the theme “Philosophical Perspectives in Classical Tamil Literature”. The event began with a welcome address by Dr. K. Preetha, Head of the Department of Tamil. The conference featured the release of the conference proceedings, inaugurated by poet Manushyaputhiran, who delivered a thought-provoking address on the interconnectedness of humanity and the philosophical values reflected in literature. The first copy was received by Thiru. Ila. Pazhamalai (IAS, Retd.), Chairman and Secretary of CTTE Trust, who also delivered the presidential address. The conference also included insightful felicitation speeches and thematic presentations from eminent scholars.

Objective:
To introduce participants to Classical Tamil Literature and explore its embedded philosophical perspectives, thereby fostering scholarly engagement and cultural appreciation.
Outcome:
Participants gained an enriched understanding of philosophical elements in Tamil classical works, recognized the universality of human values across cultures, and engaged in academic exchange through over 30 scholarly papers presented at the conference.
