Visit to Anna Centenary Library

The Educational Visit to the Anna Centenary Library, Chennai, was conducted on 4 February 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in an offline mode. Thirty-nine students from the Department of Accounting and Finance participated in the visit, which was organised to provide them with exposure to extensive learning resources and to foster academic curiosity within a structured scholarly environment.

The objective of the visit was to familiarise students with the wide range of research materials, reference texts, and digital resources available in one of South Asia’s largest public libraries. The Anna Centenary Library, renowned for its comprehensive collection and modern facilities, offered an ideal platform for students to enhance their academic engagement beyond the classroom.

During the visit, students explored various sections of the library, including those dedicated to Finance, Business, Economics, and General Reading. They gained an understanding of the digital cataloguing system, which facilitates efficient access to books, journals, and reference materials. The visit also introduced them to specialised reference sections and spacious reading halls designed to support focused academic work.

The experience highlighted the significance of libraries as centres for knowledge acquisition, research development, and intellectual growth. Students expressed that the visit encouraged them to adopt more effective study practices and to make greater use of academic resources for their personal and scholarly advancement.

Long Tour – “Journey of Integrity”

The long educational tour entitled “Journey of Integrity” was conducted from 24 to 27 January 2025 in Hyderabad, with nineteen third-year students from the Department of Accounting and Finance participating. Designed as an immersive experience, the tour sought to enhance students’ understanding of cultural heritage, media ethics, and historical governance through direct engagement with significant sites in the region.

The tour’s objectives were threefold: to explore Hyderabad’s cultural diversity, to provide exposure to ethical considerations within the media and entertainment industry through a visit to Ramoji Film City, and to examine principles of leadership and governance reflected in the historical architecture of Golconda Fort. Each activity was structured to align with these aims, thereby offering students a comprehensive and reflective learning experience.

Day 1 – Heritage and Cultural Engagement
The tour commenced with a visit to Charminar, an iconic symbol of Hyderabad renowned for its Indo-Islamic and Persian architectural features. Students explored the lively marketplaces surrounding the monument, gaining insight into the socio-cultural vibrancy of the city. This was followed by a visit to Mecca Masjid, one of India’s oldest and largest mosques, where students observed its architectural intricacies and historical importance. The day concluded at Lumbini Park, where the serene ambience and musical fountain show near Hussain Sagar provided an opportunity for leisurely reflection.

Day 2 – Media Ethics and Storytelling
On the second day, students visited Ramoji Film City, the world’s largest integrated film studio complex. The visit allowed them to witness the processes involved in filmmaking, including set creation, performance staging, and stunt execution. Through these observations, students gained an appreciation of ethical considerations in media production, particularly relating to representation, narrative responsibility, and the societal influence of entertainment.

Day 3 – Leadership and Governance through History
The final day was dedicated to Golconda Fort, a monumental structure with origins in the 12th century under the Kakatiya dynasty. Students explored its expansive granite fortifications, strategic architectural elements, and historical significance as a centre of diamond trade linked to globally renowned diamonds such as the Kohinoor and the Hope Diamond. The visit offered valuable lessons in ethical leadership, governance, and administrative strategy as reflected in historical practice.

Conclusion
The three-day educational tour to Hyderabad successfully achieved its learning objectives by integrating cultural exploration, ethical reflection, and historical analysis. The visits to Charminar and Mecca Masjid deepened students’ appreciation of architectural heritage and cultural diversity, while Ramoji Film City provided meaningful insights into the ethical dimensions of media production. The exploration of Golconda Fort underscored principles of leadership and governance embedded within historical contexts.

Industrial Visit to Ajantha Bakery Unit

The Industrial Visit to Ajantha Bakery Unit, Madhavaram, was conducted on 24 January 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in an offline mode. A total of sixty students from the Department of Accounting and Finance participated in this visit, which was designed to provide them with exposure to the operational and production processes of a commercial bakery unit.

The primary objective of the visit was to acquaint students with real-time industrial practices and to enhance their understanding of the systematic procedures involved in bakery production. During the visit, students observed the preparation of various bakery products, including puffs, cakes, biscuits, and desserts. They were able to witness each stage of production, such as mixing, shaping, baking, decorating, and quality assessment. This enabled them to appreciate the importance of accuracy, hygiene, and time management in maintaining consistency and efficiency within a large-scale manufacturing environment.

Additionally, interactions with the bakery personnel offered valuable insights into the machinery employed, workflow organisation, and industry standards upheld to ensure product quality. The practical demonstration of processes provided a meaningful extension to their classroom learning, linking theoretical knowledge with real-world applications.

EVS trip to Arignar Anna Zoological Park

The Department of Accounting and Finance organised an Environmental Studies field visit to the Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Vandalur, on 24 January 2025. A total of fifty-seven students participated in the educational trip, which commenced at 8:30 AM and extended until 2:30 PM. The visit was intended to provide students with practical exposure to biodiversity and wildlife, thereby complementing their theoretical understanding with real-world observation.

During the visit, students explored various sections of the zoological park and observed a diverse range of species, including lions, elephants, peacocks, snakes and other fauna housed in naturalistic enclosures. The experience enabled them to gain valuable insights into animal behaviour, ecological balance and the broader significance of wildlife conservation. The trip also helped cultivate a deeper appreciation for nature and fostered environmental consciousness among the learners.

The visit concluded with a group photograph, symbolising the culmination of an informative and engaging learning experience. Students returned with enhanced awareness of biodiversity and a strengthened commitment to the protection of the natural world.

Educational Visit to SEBI

The Department of Accounting and Finance organised an educational visit to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on 18 September 2024 as part of the Advanced Learners Programme. The visit, held at the SEBI Office, Anna Salai, Chennai, commenced at 11:00 a.m. and was attended by 38 students under the guidance of Dr F. Beulah and Dr E. Yoghitha. The objective of the visit was to provide students with first-hand exposure to the regulatory framework of the Indian securities market and to deepen their understanding of financial regulations, market operations, and SEBI’s role in safeguarding investors.

During the visit, students participated in an informative presentation covering the fundamentals of the Indian stock market, SEBI’s responsibilities in maintaining transparency, and the mechanisms employed to protect investor interests. The session also included an interactive question-and-answer segment, which enabled students to clarify their doubts and engage directly with SEBI experts regarding market operations, financial products, and regulatory practices.

The visit proved highly educational and insightful, equipping students with practical knowledge of the financial regulatory landscape. It also encouraged them to consider careers in the financial and regulatory sectors and reinforced the significance of compliance, ethical conduct, and investor protection in ensuring a transparent and robust financial system.

Field Trip to Birla Planetarium

The Department organised a field visit to the Birla Planetarium on 24 August 2024 at 9.00 a.m. as an integral component of the Environmental Studies (EVS) curriculum. The programme was conducted in offline mode and adopted an experiential learning methodology. A total of 33 students participated in the visit.

The primary objective of the field trip was to provide students with practical exposure to fundamental concepts in astronomy and space science, thereby reinforcing theoretical learning. The visit aimed to enhance students’ understanding of the structure of the solar system, the life cycle of stars, and the dynamics of celestial bodies. It further sought to examine the relationship between astronomical phenomena, such as solar and lunar cycles, and environmental processes influencing the Earth’s climate.

During the visit, students engaged with interactive exhibits and attended educational shows that presented complex scientific concepts in a structured and accessible manner. These experiences enabled students to contextualise theoretical knowledge within real-world scientific applications, fostering deeper conceptual clarity.

As an outcome of the field visit, participants developed a clearer and more systematic understanding of astronomical phenomena and the structure of the universe, including stars, planets, and galaxies. Students gained insight into the influence of celestial events and cycles on the Earth’s environment, climate patterns, and ecological systems. Incubation visit to MCC - MRF Innovation Park

On 20 July 2024, the Department of Business Administration organised an incubation visit to the MCC–MRF Innovation Park as an extension of experiential learning. The field visit, conducted in offline mode, commenced at 10.00 a.m. and was attended by 28 students. The visit proved to be a resounding success, offering participants meaningful exposure to a structured and dynamic innovation ecosystem.

The visit was designed to provide students with insights into the processes through which innovative ideas are conceptualised, validated and transformed into commercially viable products. Students were introduced to recent advancements in technology and innovation, along with their practical applications across various industries. The programme enabled participants to understand the core components of an innovation ecosystem, including start-ups, incubators, investors and research institutions.

Interaction with experienced professionals, industry experts and young entrepreneurs formed a significant component of the visit. These interactions facilitated knowledge sharing and provided students with a realistic perspective on entrepreneurial challenges and opportunities. Exposure to successful start-ups and emerging innovators inspired the students and strengthened their entrepreneurial outlook.
