report

The Alumna Interactions Session II – Students’ Workshop on “Mastering the Art of Lesson Planning and Designing Innovative Teaching Aids” was conducted on 29 July 2024 in offline mode. Organised for the III B.A. English students under the guidance of Ms J. Jaya Parveen, the workshop recorded the participation of 31 students and followed a lecture-and-interaction methodology.

The workshop was designed to acquaint students with contemporary teaching methodologies employed in primary education and to motivate them to consider careers in the field of teaching. By featuring alumnae of CTTE College for Women who have established themselves as teachers, the event sought to provide authentic insights into the pedagogical landscape and the professional journey associated with the teaching profession.

The resource persons for the session, Ms Shamalina and Ms Praisia Joice, both alumnae of the Department of English and currently teachers at St Moses Higher Secondary School, delivered presentations and engaged in an interactive dialogue with the participants. The session commenced with an informative presentation on the significance of pursuing a B.Ed. degree following undergraduate or postgraduate studies. This was followed by a detailed discussion on the importance of effective lesson planning in creating structured and learner-centred classroom environments.

The alumnae further introduced students to a variety of teaching methods and innovative teaching aids used in primary-level instruction, particularly in the teaching of English and Mathematics. Their demonstrations and explanations, drawn from their own classroom experiences, enabled the students to appreciate the practical application of these methods and materials.

The workshop was particularly valuable for the III B.A. English students currently undertaking an In-House Internship, as it deepened their understanding of pedagogical practices and the challenges inherent in the teaching profession. The session achieved its objectives by equipping students with relevant knowledge, enhancing their pedagogical awareness, and encouraging them to view teaching as a viable and rewarding career path.
