At CTTEWC we observe and organize events pertaining to important international events, conduct webinars, workshops, training programs, symposiums for college students and faculty development programs.
A Guest Lecture & Poetry Recitation Competition were organized on “International Mother’s Day” with the topic “Matriarchal Society” (தாய்வழிச் சமுதாயம்) on 05-05-2022 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am in Seminar Hall.
Dr. J. Valli, Assistant Professor, Department of Tamil, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women was the Resource Person for the event. She spoke about the importance of women in a family, society, and in country. She also talked about women’s life in ancient India. After the lecture, the poetry recitation competition started. There were 10 participants from different departments.
On 24-05-2022, The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Cell conducted ‘Swachh Bharat Day’. On this occasion, Dr. Sumukhi Padmanabhan, Librarian, at Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women, was the Chief Guest for the day.
All 20 Volunteers were awarded Certificates for successfully finishing their 33 hours of the Internship Programme.
On the occurrence of the World Health Day, our College’s Youth Red Cross Club organized a seminar on the topic “Physical Wellness” on 30/ 04 / 2022 via G-meet, with the help of Coordinator, Dr. P. Anitha, Assistant Professor, Department of Language. The guest speaker was Ms. Smrithi Lakshmi Narasimhan, Psychologist, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, C.T.T.E College for Women, who joined us and presented relevant information on the topic.
The program started with the greetings to the guest speaker by Youth Red Cross (YRC) Coordinator, Dr. P. Anitha, Assistant Professor, followed by the welcome speech given by Jabin Taj, III B.A. English. The guest speaker emphasized the importance of World Health Day. The focus of the session was on physical wellness. The guest speaker elaborated on the importance of routine in our wellness. Ma’am also highlighted how nutrition intake plays a vital role. It was a lively discussion; subsequently, the guest speaker played a video on the topic for the students. The event came to an end with a vote of thanks given by Oviya from II BBA.
Our college citizen consumer club organized a street play and Student forum to commemorate National Consumer Rights Day 2022. The main purpose to conduct this program is to educate the students about basic Consumer Rights and also about Consumer Day history. The program was held under the guidance of the faculty coordinator Dr. J. Valli, Assistant professor -Department of Tamil. Students from different departments took part and actively participated in the above events.
RRC Club conducted an awareness program on the account of “World Vaccination Day” on (16.03.2022) in T. Thomas Auditorium. It was open to all departments. Resource person, K. Mohanalakshmi has over 32 years of experience in the medical field. She spoke about different vaccines and their importance. She also spoke a lot about many diseases like polio, tuberculosis, etc. It was a mind-blowing session. It was a very informative session for everyone. Students cooperated throughout the session, actively.

Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women conducted an online webinar on the account of Leprosy Eradication Day on Google meet between 4.00 pm – 5.00 pm. The guest speaker of the day, Y. Isaac Arulkumar spoke a lot about Leprosy, its causes, precautions to be taken to prevent leprosy, its symptoms, etc. He even spoke on its severeness, complications, and, so on. 37 students attended this program. We learned a lot of new things about leprosy. It was a very useful session for the students.

By conducting competitionS, volunteers can understand the significance of each day celebrated, thus making us more responsible citizens.

She highlighted about the various schemes for the welfare of the girl child in India such as the CBSE Udaan scheme, Mukhyamantri Kanya Suraksha yojana, etc., she also spoke about girl child education and its importance, promoting awareness of issues like education, nutrition, child marriage, and medical care. The objective of such a scheme and webinar is to ensure that every girl child gets the required human rights. She concluded the session by throwing light on women’s empowerment for a successful tomorrow.

The National Service Scheme Volunteers gathered to pay tribute to General BIPIN RAWAT Chief General, Defence Staff of the Indian Armed Forces, and other soldiers who died in a helicopter crash on 8th December 2021. The prayer meeting was arranged on 11.12.2021 on the college campus at 9.00 am around 20 students participated & prayed for lost lives. The Entire College observed 2 minutes of silence, as a mark of respect. Our college Vice -Principal Dr.R. Meenakshi, the Dean of Students Mrs.Mercy Silvester, and the college council lit the candles to pay homage.
The Red Ribbon Club of Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women organized an Awareness program on World Aids Day, December 02, 2021, in T. Thomas Auditorium at 10 am. Around 170 students attended the program. The program commenced with a prayer song, sung by the BCA department students. The program was hosted by Ms. Aafiya. A of II B.com. G. Rehab. I of II B.Sc. Psychology welcomed the gathering.
Mrs. Sridevi, Counsellor, Kilpauk Medical College & Mrs. Vanmathi, Counsellor MMDA HP were the guest speakers for the day. Mrs. Sridevi spoke about AIDS, its causes, precautions to prevent aids, its symptoms, etc. She even spoke about its severity, complications, and so on. There was a small game session at the end of the program. Students came forward and gave full support throughout the program with great enthusiasm. On the occasion of the Indian Constitution Day on 26th November 2021, an online interactive forum discussion session was organized by National Social Service (NSS)on the topic of the Rights of Women, more than 60 NSS volunteers participated in this program, introductory remarks above the topic were made by the adviser of the discussion forum Dr.A.Kasuthri, following which a range of question, comments, and observation were made by the participants. Out of this rich intellectually stimulating discourse emerged dealing with the subject matter from both historical and contemporary perspectives. At the end of the session, the lecture was followed by intensive questions and answers in which students engaged enthusiastically.
Our college youth red cross with the help of YRC co-ordinator Dr. P. Anitha Assistant professor, the department of language, organized a seminar on the topic “Be aware- know your risk, woman cancer awareness” on 26/11/2021 through g- meet. The guest speaker was Dr. S. Rajeswari consultant of obstetrician and Gynecologist preventive support services joined us and presented a lot of information on the topic. The program started with a greeting to the guest speaker by the youth red cross co-ordinator by Dr. P. Anitha, Assistant professor, department of language. The YRC Prayer song was played by S. Jabin Taj III BA. English. The welcome speech was given by Oviya from II BBA. After the welcome speech, the program was handed over to the guest speaker. The guest speaker talks about important traditional food, how we should examine our breasts, how to identify cancer, and how to prevent we cancer and she gave a lot of tips about how we solve and consult with doctors and the importance of Gardasil and Cervarix vaccine. It contains more information for the students.
Nearly 50 students joined the program. The event is more useful to the students. The event ended with a vote of thanks by of Farheen Fathima.

Prasanna, consultant physician and consultant microbiologist, joined us and presented valuable information on the topic.
The programme started with greetings to the guest speaker by Youth Red Cross Coordinator, Dr P. Anitha, Assistant Professor, Department of Language. The YRC prayer song was sung by S. Jabin Taj, III B.A. English. The welcome speech was given by Oviya from II BBA. After which the programme was handed over to the guest speaker. The guest speaker talked about Diabetes, India facing Diabetes, symptoms of Diabetes, Diabetes in women, the importance of the Diabetes test, the age of testing and prevention. He also gave a lot of tips to solve, consult with doctors etc. It contained valuable information for the students.

Chevalier T.Thomas Elizabeth College for Women conducted an online webinar on World Pneumonia Day via Google meet, between 1.00 -2.00 P.M. Dr. Aruna MBBS, MD Neuropsychiatrist, the guest speaker of the day, spoke a lot about pneumonia, its home remedies, etc. She spoke a lot about the significance, avoidance, and objectives of pneumonia and even other diseases. 97 students attended this webinar. Students gave full support throughout the program. The Q&A session was a blockbuster. All students asked and cleared their doubts. It was a very satisfactory session for the students.
Our college ‘Citizen Consumer Club’ had organized an E-Quiz on World Food Day conducted on 16th October 2021 through virtual mode. We had sent the competition link to our college fellow mates; ninety- one students had actively participated between 9 am to 5 pm.
The “Awareness on World Mental Health Day” e-poster-making competition was organized by Red Ribbon Club on 10th October 2021. 16 students participated in this E-Poster making competition. The competition was conducted via Google forms. Mrs. Lavanya, Assistant Professor of Psychology, was the judge of this e-Poster making competition. The best two e-Posters were awarded e-certificates. First place was secured by Bagavathi. B of 3rd B.Sc. Computer Science and the second place was secured by Durga. S of 2nd BCA department.
On the occasion of World First Aid Day, an awareness program was organized on the 29th of September 2021. The RRC Club volunteers created an awareness video and circulated it to all students through Whatsapp. Our club volunteer Prathiba. S of 3rd B.Sc. CS gave an awareness speech during the morning assembly.
National Service Scheme arranged for a Tree Plantation Programme, as a part of celebrating NSS Day. This year on September 24, 2021, as we celebrate 75 years of Independence-Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, NSS Volunteers planted 10 saplings on the college campus. Our respected Vice Principal Dr.R. Meenakshi inaugurated the Programme by planting a sapling near the stone bench, Mrs Mercy Silvester, Dean of students & Head, Department of B.Com(Corporate Secretaryship ) and Mrs.R.Rajalakshmi, Head, Department of Commerce planted saplings near canteen area and Dr.A.Kasthuri NSS Programme Officer also planted sapling near the Lecture Hall, and our Volunteers also participated in this great event. Two volunteers were given one sapling each for maintenance. All the saplings that are planted and are named ‘Pungam’, as it gives more oxygen and that was the only reason to choose this particular Tree. This Tree Plantation Programme was initiated by the University of Madras, that every college should plant one Tree on the college campus, and to be maintained by a volunteer, each college was given a number for the Tree, the allotted number was 2877for our college, and also to place a guard with specifications. Geo-tag photos were taken to record the event, volunteers participated with great enthusiasm. Nearly 20 volunteers took part in this special event.
On September 23, 2021, An E – Quiz was conducted for the students on the topic of “National Education Policy”, the motive is to make the students aware of the reforms for students, teachers, and schools. The Government had replaced the 34 year -old National Policy on Education, framed in 1986, with the National Education Policy of 2020.
The Club also conducted an E-Quiz Competition on account of International Democracy Day, observed every year on 15th September 2021. The main objective of the Competition is to gain more information on Democracy. This E-Quiz was open to all, for two days from 15th September to 16th September 2021, thus recorded with 77 responses. All the participants who scored above 55% were provided with e-certificate, the e-certificate were designed by our NSS Volunteer Ms.Supritha.R, Quiz questions were prepared by a NSS Secretary, who also transferred to google forms thus making it easy for other participants to know their scores immediately, e-certificates were generated after the collection of all responses. Through these competitions, we acquire knowledge about important dates that we need to remember, the significance of being observed, and the personalities who were behind them.
National Service Scheme organized a webinar on 15th September 2021 on account of International Democracy Day. Mr.S.Baskar, Director of “Baskar Education” was the guest speaker for the day. The Resource Person has briefly explained our role in the nation’s democracy and highlighted various laws framed in our Constitution and also gave an overview of the Individual Human Rights Act”.The resource person made the session more interactive by quoting case laws and clarifying students’ doubts about the Human Rights Act. Nearly 30 volunteers benefitted from this program.
The “Awareness on World Organ Donation Day” webinar was organized by Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women in collaboration with the Rotary Club, Ambattur on 13th August 2021 for one hour, between 5.00 PM and 6.00 PM. Dr. Arunkumar Annamalai, MBBS. (Scientist, Deep medicine labs, Chennai) was the guest speaker. He spoke a lot about the importance of donating organs. 30 students participated actively in this program throughout the session. President of Rotary Club Ambattur, Rtn. Col.Bhupinder Singh, Rtn. Dr. Winston Noronha (DIR-Community Service Health) and Rtn.Flt.Ramesh, Secretary of the Rotary club, Ambattur gave small speeches. Towards the end, there was an interactive (Q & A) session. All the students felt that the session was very useful. All participants were given e-certificates.
World Breastfeeding Week is an annual celebration which is held every year from 1 to 7 August in more than 120 countries. According to the 26 August data of the WBW website, 540 events have been held worldwide by more than 79 countries with 488 organizations. This year, for WBW 2021, WABA has selected the theme: Protect Breastfeeding: A Shared Responsibility. Anchor breastfeeding support as a vital public health responsibility. Engage with individuals and organizations for greater impact. Galvanize action on protecting breastfeeding to improve public health.
About Our Campaign:
CTTE National Service Scheme Volunteers Organised, a Social Media Campaign to Spread awareness on World Breastfeeding Awareness week. As we know, WhatsApp is one of the most used messaging apps across the globe today. So, Volunteers took up the responsibility to share the message through WhatsApp stories.
Methodology:
The information was communicated in the form of E-Posters, Voiceover Videos, etc., The Contents of the videos and E-Posters were verified by WHO(World Health Organisation). Once the Poster and videos are ready, will be posted in the NSS Volunteers Official WhatsApp Group. Volunteers will be posting stories.
On 28th July 2021, CTTE National Service Scheme organized an E-Quiz Competition on account of World Nature Conservation Day, to create awareness of Nature Conservation and ways to protect it. 79 participants have responded to the E- Quiz from Various colleges and schools in and around Chennai and Thiruvallur. The Questions and Invite were prepared by H.Mageshwariand uploading questions in Google form was done by VirmilionAglow Mary.
RRC club conducted a quiz on World Hepatitis Day on July 28, 2021(Wednesday) via Google forms. We celebrate World Hepatitis Day on July 28th every year. Almost all countries celebrate this to enhance awareness of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that causes a range of health problems, including liver cancer. Hepatitis B is a disease that affects the liver and it also sometimes takes the form of liver cancer. Loss of appetite, repeated fever, feeling tired, nausea, and vomiting are some of the initial signs of this infection. 27 students participated in this quiz.
Our College Youth Red Cross (YRC) Club with the help of YRC Programme Officer, Dr P. Anitha, Assistant Professor, Department of Language, organized a programme on World Population Day on the topic “Maternal And Child Health” on 11.07.2021 via G-meet. The guest speaker, Mrs R. Lavanya, psychologist, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, CTTE COLLEGE FOR WOMEN, joined us and presented relevant information on the topic. The programme started with the greetings to the guest speaker by YRC Coordinator, Dr P. Anitha, Assistant Professor, Department of Language, followed by the welcome speech given by Nandhini P., II B.Sc. Computer Science. After the welcome speech, the YRC song was sung by Razina Nilofer of III B.A. English. The topic was contemporary and lively. The information given by the guest speaker was useful for the students. The guest speaker gave us tips and facts to take care of our health during maternal time. She also gave us a quick strategy on childbirth and death. The guest speaker also presented the causes of the rise of infertility in the country.
Nearly 50 students and the college staff joined the programme. The event was interactive and innovative. The guest speaker answered the doubts of the students and gave an excellent explanation. The event ended with a vote of thanks by Keerthika S. of II B.Sc. Computer Science.
National Service Scheme Organised a Webinar on 21st June 2021, on account of International Yoga Day, “YOGA: THE BEST PRACTICE FOR BETTER TOMORROW” Mr. Nirmal Kumar, M.Sc Yoga, M.Sc Psychology, M.Phil Yoga, a Yoga Instructor at Yoga Payanam, was the Guest Speaker for the day. The resource briefly explained the need to practise yoga so as to get relief from any kind of stress which is prevailing now as a result of this pandemic, and also for a healthy tomorrow. He also stressed the point that Yoga provides solutions for any kind of health related problems. The instructor asked us to practise 6 simple breathing exercises, which keep our lungs, body and mind relaxed, and also for proper blood circulation. The volunteers were made to do those simple exercises so as to make them feel actively involved in the session. The session ended with a few clarifications as to when should we practise yoga, how it manages menstrual pains, removing irregularity of the menstrual cycle, nearly 40 participants benefitted from this programme. Ms. AP.Vidhya, a volunteer presented a PPT on the origin, methods and benefits of Yoga which was appreciated by the speaker and the audience.
National Service Scheme organised an E-Quiz Competition on the account of World Blood Donor Day, 14th June 2021.
Objective: to create awareness of Donating Blood and how it saves someone’s life.
The Online Quiz was open to all for two days from 14th June to 16th June 2021, thus recorded 368 responses. All the participants who scored above 55% were provided with an e-certificate.
