“Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.”
Youth Day is celebrated every year on January 12th on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, who is regarded as a youth icon and one of India’s most influential spiritual leaders.
Youth is the driving force behind the progress of every nation. Their energy, creativity, and leadership have the power to shape democratic societies by promoting active citizenship, social responsibility, and inclusive decision-making.
Youth Leadership and Democratic Transformation explores how empowering young people with knowledge, values, and leadership skills can strengthen democracy and inspire positive change for a better future.
Youth constitute a powerful force for shaping inclusive, just and resilient societies. In an era of rapid social, technological and economic change, young people are increasingly emerging as active participants in democratic processes, civic engagement and social transformation. Their voices, perspectives and leadership are essential for building institutions that are transparent, accountable, inclusive and responsive to the aspirations of society.
The conference on “Youth Leadership and Democratic Transformation” seeks to provide a meaningful platform for scholars, students, and young leaders to deliberate on the evolving role of youth in strengthening democratic values and institutions. It will explore how young citizens can contribute through responsible leadership, civic participation, social justice, digital engagement, peaceful dialogue, accountability and inclusive decision-making.
The theme is closely aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16) – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, particularly Target 16.7, which calls for inclusive, participatory and representative decision-making at all levels. By empowering youth to become informed, responsible and engaged citizens, the conference aims to foster democratic participation and contribute to building peaceful, just and inclusive societies.
The conference envisions youth not merely as beneficiaries of democracy, but as active architects of a more inclusive, accountable and sustainable democratic future.
