Fire Safety Mock Drill

As part of the Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness initiatives, the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services conducted a Fire Safety Mock Drill at Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women, on 24 June 2026. The programme was organised in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) with the objective of promoting awareness of fire safety practices and strengthening students’ preparedness to respond effectively during emergencies.
 
During the session, officials from the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services delivered an informative presentation on fire hazards, preventive safety measures, and emergency management protocols. The resource persons emphasised the importance of fire safety awareness, risk identification, and adherence to established safety procedures in educational institutions and public spaces.
 
A practical demonstration formed the highlight of the programme. The officials explained the proper use of firefighting equipment and demonstrated appropriate techniques for responding to fire emergencies. Students were guided through emergency evacuation procedures and instructed on the precautions to be observed during critical situations. The demonstration provided participants with valuable experiential learning and enhanced their understanding of emergency preparedness and response mechanisms.
 
The programme enabled students to develop a comprehensive understanding of fire safety regulations, evacuation strategies, and the significance of timely and coordinated action during emergencies. Through active participation and interaction with the resource personnel, the students gained practical knowledge and confidence in managing unforeseen situations responsibly and effectively.
 
The mock drill concluded with the enthusiastic participation and wholehearted cooperation of all attendees. The programme significantly enhanced students’ awareness of fire safety and emergency preparedness, equipping them with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to respond effectively and responsibly during fire-related emergencies.

Singappen Padai Conducts Awareness Programme for Students

Chennai, June 18

Members of the Singappen Padai, an initiative of the Tamil Nadu Government aimed at promoting the safety and welfare of women, conducted an awareness programme for students at Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women on Thursday.

During the programme, the resource persons explained the objectives behind the formation of Singappen Padai, its activities, and its role in ensuring the safety and security of women. Students were also sensitised to various legal provisions available for the protection of women and children, with special emphasis on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The speakers highlighted the importance of legal awareness and informed students about the support mechanisms available during emergency situations. They also explained how women can seek assistance from Singappen Padai and avail themselves of the various protection services provided by the government.

The interactive session helped enhance awareness among students regarding personal safety, legal rights, and available support systems. Participants appreciated the informative programme, which fostered greater confidence and preparedness among young women.
