Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women, Chennai -11, organised a Panel Discussion on the National Education Policy 2020: Students’ Perspective on March 22, 2021 in the college premises. This event was coordinated by the IQAC and the Student Council of the college.
The National Education Policy 2020 proposed by the Union Cabinet of India is the country’s vision to meet the demands of a new academic future. The objective of the event was to make students aware of the upcoming transformative changes in higher eductaion and thus make them active participants in its successful implementation.
13 Student panelists from various disciplines like Humanities, Science, Psychology, Commerce and Management presented their perspectives on NEP 2020. Dr. K. N. Shoba from Anna University was the moderator.
The student panelists in their presentations welcomed the proposed changes of NEP 2020, like promoting native languages and imparting vocational skill training. From the students’ perspective the interdisciplinary studies and integrated course structure with a value-based holistic curriculum along with skill training offered wider learning opportunities. However, they were apprehensive of the available infrastructure required for its effective implementation.
The moderator Dr. K.N. Shoba lauded the efforts of the institution and appreciated the student panelists for their exhaustive insights on the new education policy. In her response she urged the student community to equip themselves with the twenty first century skills of Collaboration, Critical thinking, Creative thinking and Communication.
